"For Your Love" was the 3rd 45 issued by The Yardbirds and reached #3 in the UK charts. The Epic label release in the States reached #6, their highest American chart placing. Written by Manchester song-writing legend Graham Gouldman, it was nearly offered to The Beatles but instead it was The Yardbirds who ended up performing it as a warm-up act on Top Of The Pops. The move away from their previous R & B oriented 45's prompted the departure of guitarist Eric Clapton who subsequently joined John Mayall's band.
A point of interest was that Brian Auger was drafted in to play organ on the session, but on arrival found that the only keyboard instrument in the studo was a harpsichord. As he himself opined after the recording, "Who on earth will buy a pop record with harpsichord on it?" Quite a lot, as it transpired!
The B-side "Got to hurry" is credited to 'O. Rasputin', the pen name of the group's then producer, Giorgio Gomelsky. Comes in a standard Columbia company sleeve.
